Central government employees enrolled in the National Pension System (NPS) who retired on or before March 31, 2025, with at least 10 years of qualifying service—or their spouses—can now claim additional benefits under the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS), the Finance Ministry announced on Friday.
These benefits are offered over and above the regular NPS entitlements.
According to the scheme, retirees opting for UPS will receive a one-time lump sum equivalent to one-tenth of their last drawn basic pay plus dearness allowance for every completed six months of qualifying service. Additionally, a monthly top-up amount will be provided, calculated as the difference between the eligible UPS payout (including Dearness Relief) and the representative annuity amount received under NPS.
