The Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron (INS Tir, INS Shardul, INS Sujata, and ICGS Sarathi) concluded a four-day port call in Maputo, Mozambique, from September 16–19, 2025, reinforcing maritime cooperation.
During the visit, the squadron conducted joint training exercises with the Mozambique Navy, including diving operations, firefighting, VBSS operations, and bridge machinery integration drills. Indian trainees also visited Mozambique’s Marine Commando School, Sargent School, and Army Practising School, while Mozambican personnel embarked on Indian Navy ships for joint EEZ surveillance.
High-level courtesy calls were exchanged with Rear Admiral Eugenio Dias Da Silva Muatuca, Chief of the Mozambique Navy, and other senior officials, highlighting growing defence cooperation. The deployment also included community outreach, with over 1,000 school children touring the ships, a medical camp serving over 100 patients, awareness campaigns on critical diseases and first aid, joint yoga sessions, and a friendly futsal match.
As the squadron departs for Mombasa, the visit strengthens bilateral ties and underscores India’s commitment to peace, stability, and maritime partnership in the Indian Ocean Region under the MAHASAGAR initiative.
