Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty are likely to open on a flat note today, taking cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 25,153.50. Mixed global signals and the announcement by US President Donald Trump to impose a 25% tariff on all medium- and heavy-duty truck imports starting November 1 are expected to influence market sentiment.
On October 6, the domestic market began the week positively, with the Nifty 50 extending its gains for the third consecutive session, closing above the 25,000 mark, supported by strong performance in IT and financial stocks.
On Monday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 81790.12 up by 582.95 points or by 0.72 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25077.65 up by 183.4 points or by 0.74 %.
On the global front, Nikkei was up 0.81 per cent, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was down 0.67 per cent, mainland China’s CSI 300 was up 0.45 per cent, and South Korea’s Kospi was up 2.7 per cent.
Overnight, Wall Street indices also closed mixed as investors have been looking past concerns about the current US government shutdown, which has now dragged on into a second week after lawmakers once again failed to reach a deal on funding to keep the government open. The shutdown delayed the release of key economic data — including the September jobs report — which was originally due Friday.
At close, S&P 500 up 0.36 per cent, Nasdaq up 0.71 per cent. However, Dow Jones was down 0.14 per cent.
